Through the theoretical use of a megastructure called a Dyson Sphere, science has found a way to make immortality possible by booting up our past selves.
Through the discovery and operation of the Dyson Sphere megastructure, science has recently discovered a potential way for our consciousness to live on even after our bodies have died.
According to Popular Mechanics, the sphere megastructure is the agent responsible for telling a future AI (artificial intelligence) source the “historical and personal data” required to “create an exact digital copy” of us, similar to the “San Junipero” episode of Black Mirror, which centered on a world where our consciousness is uploaded to a database.
Transhumanist and life extensionist Alexey Turchin has been working on “Plan C” of a “Immortality Roadmap” project since 2014.The Russian scientist collaborated with researcher Maxim Chernyakov on these recent findings. Turchin became interested in the afterlife after witnessing the tragic death of a fellow classmate when he was 11 years old. “I began to think in science-fiction terms about what could be done,” the scientist said, influenced by the experience.
Turchin was inspired to join the Russian Transhumanist Movement in 2007, which aims to “transcend their existing physical and mental limits” through technology. Turchin has been “proactively documenting” his day-to-day life since joining the party.
Turchin has transcribed or captured everything from visions to everyday conversations as part of his “ubiquitous surveillance” practice.
However, a research fellow previously claimed that this finding would take a long time because of the impracticality of powering the megastructure. “The tensile strength needed to keep the Dyson Sphere from tearing itself apart greatly exceeds that of any known material,” Stuart Armstrong previously said. Humans are currently unable to construct such a structure, but the blueprint exists. Although some scientists question the time and effort required to implement this, Fordham University physics professor Stephen Holler warned that the copy might not be exactly what they expect.
“I don’t think you could subject somebody to the same developmental conditions they had in life, because that presupposes you know all their developmental conditions, from the guy who picked on that person that day when they were very young to what day the person received that award.” Holler said.
“It’s you up to the point where you download it,” he concluded, a sobering fact about the new study of immortality. He continued, “After that, it evolves into a different person. It becomes a new entity. The digital copy will always be divergent from the biological copy.”
